With our interaction with the SAPS Kleinmond and the Security Companies, we have encountered a negative reaction in response to the community playing a blaming game in terms of service delivery. It is a known fact that positive re-enforcement rather than criticism elicits positive attitudes and actions. It is for this reason that we have decided to embark on a road to build positive relationships with our security partners.

The Kleinmond Police Station has fallen into a poor state of repair and is now inadequate to meet the needs of the community. The present staff members have no control over the situation and one can but only imagine the impact this has on operating efficiencies, staff turnover, staff moral and the subsequent effect on policing in our villages.

The newly established Community Police Forum (CPF) has looked into this matter and has prepared a list of items needing attention to address the situation. Details can be ascertained, with pictures, on our web site www.bettysbay.info under the heading “The community is to raise funds to upgrade the Kleinmond Police Station”.

The CPF is in the process of raising funds for this project.

In view of the above, the BBRA committee discussed the situation at their last meeting and a majority decision was taken to donate R10,000-00 from our funds towards addressing the problems. These funds would be paid to the CPF’s bank account as they would control expenditure. As you are no doubt aware the CPF is chaired by Edward Richards of Cape Nature with other residents of Bettys Bay on the committee i.e. Violet Bossut and Wendy Tawse.

One of our Committee members, Tim McGavin, who is instrumental in reviving the Neighbourhood Watch in Bettys Bay serves on the CPF Executive and is also very involved in addressing the problems at Kleinmond Police Station. One of the fundraising activities to raise funds to help fight crime, is a raffle with a draw on 10 July 2016.

The BBRA has challenged the surrounding Ratepayer’s Associations to match our donation.

It was felt that we would like your opinion on this decision taken by your elected committee and as such would like any feedback you wish to express to be sent to us at the following e-mail address: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Such feedback should reach us by Friday 24 June 2016.

Thanking you in anticipation,
Rudi Perold Chairman – Bettys Bay Ratepayers Association
