BETTYSBAAI se BUURTWAG (BBBW)

2016-11-01

  1. Radio’s en antennas R30 000
  2. Magnetiese plakkers op voertuie 3 000
  3. Nagsigtoerusting 80 000
  4. Infrarooikamera’s 20 000
  5. Weerkaatsingsbaadjies 1 500
  6. Pepersproei 2 500
  7. Noodlaaiers vir selfone 3 000
  8. Herlaaibare flitse 10 500
  9. Drukwerk 3 000
  10. Brandstof 30 000

Totaal: R183 500

BETTY'S BAY NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

28th October 2016

Dear Homeowner/Resident, this correspondence serves to update you on the status of the above organisation. The Bettys Bay Neighbourhood Watch ( BBNW) was established under the auspices of the Bettys Bay Rate Payers Association ( BBRP) earlier in 2016. The BBNW has developed to the point where we have been able to conduct many operations throughout our area in conjunction with security companies and the police.

The BBNW is registered with the Community Policing Forum and is fully operational. Training of our members has begun and will be completed during 2017.

The crime situation in the area is such that without an effective neighbourhood watch, to enhance the service provided by the police and security companies, the incidents of robberies from houses and vehicles will not stop. The police are making a concerted effort in Bettys Bay but they do not have sufficient manpower to cover all bases and they do rely on the security companies and the BBNW to assist with manpower and equipment.

We have received acknowledgement of our efforts at a recent Public Accountability Meeting hosted by the police. We need to expand our ability to add more value to the overall crime prevention strategy in Bettys Bay. Bettys Bay has been divided into areas each under the control of a warden. The recruitment of people to bolster our numbers is ongoing.

The BBNW has up to now existed off a grant of R10 500 from the BBRP which has been used primarily to purchase radios. In order to ensure that we can continue growing and become more effective we need to become self sustaining as we cannot be financially dependent of the BBRP, although we will remain under their umbrella.

We have put together a budget for the next year detailed below:

  1. Radios and antennas R 30 000
  2. Magnetic signs for vehicles 3 000
  3. Night vision equipment 80 000
  4. Infrared Cameras 20 000
  5. Reflective vests 1 500
  6. Pepper spray 2 500
  7. Emergency cell phone chargers 3 000
  8. Rechargeable torches 10 500
  9. Printing 3 000
  10. Fuel allowance 30 000

Total:  R 183 500

Currently we do not reimburse our members for any costs they incur in assisting with operations. We have included in the budget a nominal R50 per vehicle per operation to cover the cost of fuel.

In order to purchase this equipment we are planning various fund raising events and in addition we are requesting home owners and residents to consider making a voluntary donation towards covering these costs. As a guide if 300 home owners and/or residents make an annual contribution of R600, we would be able to execute our plans for improving our service to the Bettys Bay community. The contribution is voluntary and any donations will be extremely welcome.

The bank charges involved in a monthly debit order system to both parties make an annual EFT contribution the preferred option. Homeowners/residents however do have the option of initiating a monthly EFT transfer from their bank directly into our bank account:
